After a Rays loss on Monday night, the final playoff spot in the AL has been locked in. The 5 teams to represent the American League will be the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, and the Oakland Athletics.
The Yankees and A’s will play first in a Wild Card game. (home field has yet to be determined) The winner of that game will head to Boston to face the Red Sox in the ALDS.
The Indians and Astros will face off in the other ALDS matchup.
The wild card game is only 1 game; winner advances. The division series is a best-of-five series where the first to win 3 games advances. The League Championship series is best-of-seven along with the World Series.
The Astros are looking to repeat after last year. Their roster has already broken the record for most strikeouts in a season with 1,628 and counting. The Yankees are looking to add to their 27 championships that they already own. The Red Sox are looking for their 4th World Series victory since 2004. The Oakland Athletics are trying to become the 3rd team to win 10 World Series total and the Indians are trying to win their first World Series since 1948.
