This spring, something really cool happened with former Philly Chase Utley and a fan of his, Devin Smeltzer. Smeltzer originally met Utley back in 2006 after he had been diagnosed with cancer and was only 9 years old. He took a trip to Citizens Bank Park to a game and got to meet some of his Philly favorites, Chase Utley and Cole Hamels. Smeltzer ended up beating cancer and was a good enough ballplayer to get drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round.
Fast forward to a few years down the road and Smeltzer was reunited at spring camp with Utley. Manager Dave Roberts gave everyone the run-down in the Dodger’s clubhouse.
