Roberto Clemente was a Hall Of Fame outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is well known for his great talent on the field and his generous, compassionate nature off the field. He died in a plane crash while delivering supplies to victims of a Nicaraguan earthquake at the age of 38.
To commemorate Roberto Clemente Day on September 17, Adidas made a pair of handmade Clemente Boost 2 Icon cleats. Adidas gave them to fellow countryman, Carlos Correa. (Unfortunately, Correa was given the day off to recover from a minor injury). The designers spared no expense and left no detail to chance.
Clemente once said “When I put on my uniform, I feel I am the proudest man on Earth.” These Boost Icon 2’s have this quote on the instep of the cleats, as well as a portrait of Clemente and his signature. On the fore foot, the designers hand stitched flannel jersey-like material as well as their iconic three stripes. The final product is a piece of art.
